Prince Rupert is a Port community with a diverse economy - fishing and international shipping, forestry and tourism. It is also home to grain and coal terminals. Prince Rupert will soon boast a new container port. Studies are underway in offshore oil and gas and the use of wind power for power generation

Prince Rupert is also known as the "Gateway to Alaska" as the Alaska Ferry docks here to pick up passengers heading to Alaska. The beautiful scenery of the surrounding mountains and ocean make it the ideal vacation destination. A new modern docking facility has been built to accomodate the cruise ships. BC Ferries and Via Rail as well as the new Rocky Mountaineer add to the methods of transportation for visitors.

Prince Rupert offers kayaking, sports fishing, hiking, whale watching tours along with several other historical sites detailing Prince Ruperts history from the First Nations peoples who first inhabited the North Coast to the days when Prince Rupert became a military installment.

Prince Rupert is also the first step towards the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii), a paradise for those who appreciate First Nations culture and a unique natural environment.
