On January 12, 2007, in celebration of the Financial Posts centennial year, David Asper, Chairman of the National Post, led the market opening of the Toronto Stock Exchange, denoting a century of insightful business reporting and analysis for the renowned Canadian institution.
We are proud to celebrate this great milestone in Canadian business history, said David Asper. The Financial Post is built on a century-old tradition of financial journalism excellence and a heritage of leadership, credibility and stability. The Post will continue to be the financial voice of this country well into the next 100 years.
The Financial Post printed its first edition on January 12, 1907. It was positioned as a business weekly with the goal to provide accurate information relating to the financial interests and legitimate investments of Canada. Today, 100 years later, the publication maintains a long-standing record as the voice of Canadian business and one of the countrys most relied upon daily financial resources. With the symbolic opening of the TSX market, the financial paper welcomes a new era and the introduction of new features.
For 100 years, Canadians have come to rely on the Financial Post and its knowledgeable writers for insightful reporting and analysis of the business news that is important to them, said Gordon Fisher, Publisher, National Post. As we move into the next century, we will draw on that heritage as we unveil many new products and initiatives. Were focused on providing our readers with the information they want and how they want it, by providing content across multiple platforms.
As the first in a series of initiatives to be unveiled over the next few months, an FP Trading Desk blog has been created at www.fptradingdesk.com. An extension of the popular daily column, the online version provides trading ideas, market analysis and investment opinions, and posts real-time, market-moving items on the web throughout the trading day. This lively, fast-moving and interactive feature allows readers to post comments and submit tips.
As well, the National Post launched its new blog, Full Comment, at www.fullcomment.com, allowing readers to jump into the debate with Canada's most popular columnists and opinion makers in the new online home of National Post comment. Readers are invited to join the National Post editorial team as they take on the major issues of the day.
A commemorative Financial Post masthead logo was unveiled and a special Timeline feature, located at www.fp100.ca, was introduced. The timeline provides a decade by decade look at the greatest business stories throughout the century. |
