Global And CH Television Win 13 Awards In The West

Global News And CH News Receive Regional RTNDA Awards Including Best Newscast (Medium Market) and Lifetime Achievement |

(Vancouver) Global Television Network and CH Television in the West have won a total of 13 regional awards and honourable mentions combined at the 2005 Radio-Television News Directors Association of Canada Awards (RTNDA). The Global News and CH News affiliates won in each of their respective markets Prairie Region and Pacific Region.
Below is a listing of all the regional RTNDA awards and honourable mentions received by each of the Global News and CH News affiliates in the West.
Global Edmonton (Prairie Region):
Dave Rogers Award for Best Short Feature for Eso Conductor, a behind-the-scenes story of the flamboyant new conductor from the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra,
Ron Laidlaw Award for Best Continuing Coverage for Mayer Thorpe Mountie Massacre, an extensive report on the murders of four RCMP officers and the fallout that followed,
Dave Rogers Award for Best Short Feature (honourable mention) for Blacksmith, a story on an Albertan poet and blacksmith,
Ron Laidlaw Award for Best Continuing Coverage (honourable mention) for Wabamun Lake Oil Spill, a comprehensive review of one of Canadas worst environment disasters and CN Rails handling of the Wabamun Lake oil spill.
Global Regina (Prairie Region):
Dave Rogers Award for Best Short Feature (honourable mention) for SpongeBob Potholes, a creative story using SpongeBob Squarepants to visually demonstrate the size of potholes in the community.
Global Winnipeg (Prairie Region):
Dan McArthur Award for Best In-depth/Investigative reporting for Blind Justice, an investigation into three wrongful crime convictions made by the Province of Manitoba.
Global BC (Pacific Region):
Ron Laidlaw Award for Best Continuing Coverage for Tsunami, Rumina Dayas stories on the South Asian Tsunami recovery,
Sam Ross Award for Best Editorial/Commentary for Dragged Kid was Brave, Mike McCardells eloquent commentary about a young gas attendant who was dragged and killed by a drunken gas thief.
CH Vancouver Island (Pacific Region):
Bert Cannings Award for Best Newscast (medium market) for Air India Verdict, CH News comprehensive team coverage of the Air India bombing,
Dave Rogers Award for Best Short Feature (medium market) for On the Road Again: Trudeaus Classic Roadster Restored, a unique story about the restoration of a classic roadster owned by Justin Trudeau, and originally driven by Pierre Trudeau,
Alan Walton, senior news photographer, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his exemplary work throughout 33-years of contributing to the industry and his community.
CHBC TV Kelowna (Pacific Region):
Dan McArthur Award for Best In-depth/Investigative reporting for Corruption at City Hall, an unprecedented examination into the financial activities of Vernons municipal government, including the citys Mayor,
Ron Laidlaw Award for Continuing Coverage (honourable mention) for Crack Park, a series of stories about the drug dealing problem plaguing the shores and parks around Okanagan Lake that resulted in a police crackdown of the issue.
All of the winners will now go on to compete in the national RTNDA awards, which is being held in St. Johns, Newfoundland on June 9, 2006.
