ONE-DAY CH TSUNAMI RELIEF DRIVE HITS $865,587

(Hamilton - January 12, 2005) - The one-day CH Tsunami Relief Drive, which took place Tuesday, January 11, helped raise $865,587 for tsunami survivors.

"The outpouring of generosity from our viewers and the community has been absolutely overwhelming," said Patrick O'Hara, General Manager of CH Television. "This was a collaborative effort and the day's success is a result of the contributions of so many. The support CH received from community leaders during this 18-hour endeavour was instrumental to the drive's overall success and we'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who contributed."

All money raised will assist The Canadian Red Cross in providing desperately needed relief items such as clean drinking water, shelter and medicine to the victims of the devastating tsunami disaster. Funds will also be allocated toward long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

CH News coverage was extensive and focused on efforts across Hamilton, Halton and Niagara. Correspondents reported live throughout the day from the Red Cross Centre in Hamilton, the McMaster University Call Centre, Hamilton City Hall as well as news bureaus in Halton, Niagara and Queen's Park. Representatives from school boards, police departments, businesses, sports and community groups as well as local entertainers showed their support throughout the 18-hour fundraising effort. The donations came pouring in right until the federal government matching program cutoff deadline of midnight.

The success of the CH Tsunami Relief Drive was due in part to generous participants such as: The Canadian Red Cross, McMaster University, Hamilton Health Sciences, Bell Canada, The Hamilton Spectator, Battlefield Advertising, K-Lite FM, The City of Hamilton, AM 900 CHML, Locke Street Bakery, Beach Road Meats, My Thai Restaurant, Sauces by Sophia Inc., The Hamilton Tiger Cats, The Hamilton Bulldogs, the countless volunteers who operated the phone banks throughout the day and many, many other generous supporters.

The CH Tsunami Relief Drive, in collaboration with The Canadian Red Cross, raised $865,587.
