(TORONTO, December 12, 2005) - There are picturesque lakeside towns all over the world, but there is only one Falcon Beach.
Thursdays at 8pm ET, beginning January 5, Global Television launches this steamy young adult series - inviting audiences nationwide to get away - and take a whole new look at the long, hot days of summer.
The story of Falcon Beach centres on a group of local and vacationing young men and women sharing three months together in a waterfront community on the shores of fictional 'Lake Winnipeg'. Hook ups, break ups, heartaches and heartthrobs - Falcon Beach is about first kisses, second glances and lasting memories in a place where sand and surf collide. Here, the arcade, the dance hall, the campfire, the wakeboard and the motorboat are the visible hallmarks of small town life on the water. Just below the surface, however, is where the real story comes alive. The passions and personalities of each of the Falcon Beach characters - their relationships and tentative alliances - will all be revealed for audiences over one compelling season in the sun.
"We're very proud to be featuring Falcon Beach in our January '06 schedule," said Global Television Senior Vice President of Programming and Production, Barbara Williams. "We're committed to making this new Canadian series a successful part of Global's midseason program strategy, and combining that effort with one of our most exciting, aggressive marketing campaigns to date."
In addition to an intensive on-air promotional presence that began in November, elements of Global's multiplatform national marketing campaign include a variety of customized ads in major daily and commuter newspapers, theatres, transit, health clubs, and at university/college campuses in all key markets. In the days leading up to the January 5th broadcast premiere, fans in Winnipeg, Toronto and Vancouver can watch for details on attending special sneak screenings, featuring Falcon Beach principal cast and the chance to win a deluxe getaway to Bermuda. The series rollout continues with guerrilla marketing teams deployed in late December in Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton.
An Insight Productions//Original Pictures Production, Falcon Beach (13X1hr) distinguishes itself with a real-deal approach to the life and the lifestyle inside a resort town. Falcon Beach is about the townies who work and grew up there, the visitors escaping their city lives and the clashes and relationships that result, all wrapped up in the romance of summer," said series Producer and Original Pictures President, Kim Todd.
This is the ultimate blue sky show, continues Falcon Beach Executive Producer John Brunton, Its shot outside on the beach. Its sexy, fun and has great music -- just like summer.
The series features a young cast of beauty and brawn, headed by Steve Byers as series heartthrob and wakeboard jock, Jason Tanner; Nova Scotia native Jennifer Kydd as society girl Paige Bradshaw; Calgary-born Devon Weigel as Tanya Shedden (Falcon Beach wild child and recovering addict); and Morgan Kelly as visiting trouble maker and law breaker Lane Bradshaw. Also joining the cast at TV's hottest address on the water this season is Ephraim Ellis as Danny Ellis, arcade manager, best friend and first timer at love, and Melissa Elias, a Winnipeg native who plays lifeguard Erin Haddad, Danny's main squeeze.
Over all the action, the Falcon Beach sound is unmistakable. The music of some of today's hottest alternative and independent artists including Broken Social Scene, Kathleen Edwards, Hawksley Workman and Hedley can be heard throughout the series. It's just not a moment without the music, and viewers can visit www.falconbeach.ca for more on the Falcon Beach soundtrack - coming soon.
