Jolly Saint Nick makes a special visit to Toronto

Global’s Susan Hay and Leslie Roberts host the Santa Claus Parade
(TORONTO - Friday October 28, 2005) Did you hear? Jolly Saint Nick and his fairytale friends are getting ready for the Santa Claus Parade. Susan Hay and Leslie Roberts host the 101st Santa Claus Parade live from Toronto Sunday, November 20 on Global Television.

“Now that we’ve passed the 100 year mark, the elves and I decided to spice things up a bit and recruit some new fun-loving characters to participate in the parade,” says Santa Claus, of his world famous Parade. “We’ve got, Barbie & Pegasus, Cinderella, Thomas the Tank Engine, Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf and the Snow Family to name a few.”

As always, the popular procession will usher in the holiday season with a dazzling array of floats, costumes, clowns, marching bands and mascots. New entrants this year also include Nursery Rhyme Land, Thomas the Tank Engine, Little People Amusement Park, Bathtime, Toy Train, Autumn Leaves, Teddy Bear Bedtime, the Big Polar Bear, Gingerbread House, Dora the Explorer, Toyland, and 10 Pin Elves. Some returning favourites include: Mother Goose, Alpine Dreams, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Fish Tales, Ants Go Munching In, and The Great Canadian Canoe.

“The Santa Claus Parade is not just for kids, adults can join in the festivities too. I know how people love those reality shows, so I’ve contacted my friends at Global Television and they’ll be airing Santa’s On His Way and Countdown to Santa

Santa’s On His Way provides a special behind-the-scenes preview of the event. This half-hour special hosted by Susan Hay and Leslie Roberts is a fun, up-close look at the dedicated crew, the magic at Santa’s Warehouse and all the work that goes into the floats, costumes, and music.

Countdown to Santa is a half-hour special hosted by Global’s meteorologist Michael Kuss. The show comes to you live from the official starting point of the parade at Bloor and Christie and features interviews and highlights of parades past and present.

The Santa Claus Parade will be seen around the world courtesy of CanWest Global stations TV3 New Zealand, Network TEN Australia, TV3 Ireland and TV Norge Norway. The parade will also be available online at www.canada.com until New Year’s Day.
