Debbie Travis moving to Global Television Brand new renovation show starts 5-city casting call on August 15 in Toronto

(TORONTO - Wednesday, July 13, 2005) Debbie Travis is moving to the Global Television Network next spring with a brand new show. From the Ground Up with Debbie Travis is a 10-episode, one-hour primetime event series in which viewers will see Canada's leading interior design star like never before. The indomitable Travis is on a mission: to not only renovate a house, but lives one brick at a time.
From the Ground Up with Debbie Travis will bring together 12 young people between the ages of 19-30 who will work with Travis on a massive renovation and design project. In addition to producing an unbelievable home makeover, participants will be taught all the renovation and design skills on the job that could help them in their future careers. Participants will also have the chance to walk away from the program with hundreds of thousands of dollars.
"We are thrilled that Debbie and her team has decided to move to CanWest," said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President of Programming and Production. "We are very excited about this prestigious project; a living documentary series that plays on the classic rags-to-riches story."
Beginning August 15, Travis will travel to Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Halifax for an open casting call in search of participants. Individuals are asked to bring a photo, age identification and, if they choose, a videotape of themselves explaining why they should be on the show.
"I'm totally thrilled to cross Canada searching for participants for our new series for Global, From the Ground Up," said Debbie Travis. "It will be amazing to talk to young adults about their work experiences and their frustrations. I know that we'll be able to find the 12 we need to make the show a compelling and inspiring entertainment series for Canadians."

MONTREAL: Friday, August 19
VANCOUVER: Tuesday, August 23
CALGARY: Friday, August 26
HALIFAX: Thursday, September 1
