First-ever Grand Prix of Edmonton airs July 17 on Global

(TORONTO - Tuesday, July 12, 2005) Live coverage of the West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton will air Sunday, July 17 on the Global Television Network.
This is Champ Car's debut in Edmonton where speeds on the straightaway will exceed 320 km/h on a track 3.154 kilometres in length. The race will feature 17 drivers from seven countries, including Canadian stars Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani, coming off his third place finish in Toronto. The drivers will go wheel-to-wheel on the specially built Finning International Speedway at City Centre Airport in front of an estimated 60,000 fans.
"We are very excited to be broadcasting the first-ever West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton," said Adam Ivers, Vice President of Programming. "Racing fans will definitely get their adrenaline fix with what is sure to be a thrilling debut in the Champ Car racing circuit."

The action begins on Saturday, July 16 with a one-hour pre-race qualifying special. The one-hour show will be hosted by Global's Jim Tatti and will air as follows:
Ontario/Quebec/British Columbia - 7pm
Maritimes/Manitoba/Saskatchewan/Alberta - 8pm
Then on Sunday, July 17, the main event will be hosted by Jim Tatti, with commentary by Paul Page and Memo Gidley. Global's Don Martin will be in the pits along with Todd Lewis.
