Global Television documentary Vacations from the Heart looks at volunteer tourism as vacation alternative
|
 |
(TORONTO - Monday, April 4, 2005) The new documentary Vacations from the Heart looks at the growing number of travellers who are turning to volunteer tourism for a more meaningful vacation experience. The one-hour documentary will air Friday, April 15 on the Global Television Network.
The recent wave of international volunteers travelling to Asia to help rebuild communities devastated by the tsunamis has helped inspire huge public interest in finding ways to help others, both at home and on the other side of the world.
In the past five years, many organizations and some travel agencies have sprouted up which specialize in matching people with a country and a project where they can volunteer their skills in assisting a community in need. While the accommodations are simple, the food plain and the plumbing often nonexistent, the rewards can be transformative.
Vacations from the Heart follows three Canadian travellers as they explore new places, new cultures and their own values as they travel to such exotic locations as the Peruvian Andes, the Monteverde Cloud Forest of Costa Rica, and the wildlife-rich atolls of Belize.
Vacations from the Heart is produced by Vancouver-based Insight Documentaries. The production is directed by David Springbett and produced by Springbett and Suzette Meyers
Vacations from the Heart airs Friday, April 15 on the Global Television Network as follows:
