(TORONTO - Thursday, March 3, 2005) The Global Television Network announced today that the half-hour comedy The Jane Show produced by Shaftesbury Films and starring Second City alumnus Teresa Pavlinek will be developed as a 22-episode primetime series for production in 2005. After a successful broadcast of the half-hour comedy pilot on December 15, Global is committed to developing the series further.
"The Jane Show represents a strong and dynamic opportunity to create a successful comedy with a wonderful female lead," said Anne-Marie Varner, Head of Original Production, CanWest MediaWorks. "Our decision to pursue the series was supported by audience reaction to the pilot and, more importantly, through our substantive qualitative research. The Jane Show is a premium project with excellent potential to perform exceptionally well in our primetime schedule, and we look forward to working with Shaftesbury Films on the series."
Christina Jennings, Shaftesbury Films founder and Executive Producer explained, "Our Jane is not a plain Jane, although she's not going to be someone parading around with her feet crammed into a pair of Manola Blahniks either; and Teresa (Pavlinek) strikes the perfect balance as Jane. We are thrilled to be partnered with Global Television to help launch The Jane Show as a primetime series."
The half-hour comedy examines the life of a "typical" 33-year-old woman living the single life in Toronto. Set in the competitive world of advertising, Teresa Pavlinek is Jane Black, who works as a copy editor at the boutique agency Newby & Best Advertising. The Jane Show is a half-hour comedy where sexual politics and office politics collide as Jane tries to keep her head above water while dealing with dating, her job, love and her co-workers.
The Jane Show is produced by Christina Jennings, and created and written by Ralph Chapman and Teresa Pavlinek.
