Windsor Star Appoints New Publisher

Windsor born Jim Venney to fill key role |

TORONTO Wednesday, February 22, 2006 Jim Orban, Group Publisher, Eastern Region, CanWest MediaWorks Publications Inc., today announced Jim Venney has been appointed Publisher for the Windsor Star. In this role, Mr. Venney will lead and direct the day to day operations of the paper and ensure the link between the paper and the community remains strong.
Jim is a Windsor resident with a wealth of experience in the newspaper business, said Mr. Orban. He has done an outstanding job in his role as a senior executive at the Windsor Star and we have every expectation that he will develop innovative strategies for growth and market leadership in his new role as publisher.
Mr. Venney has held a variety of finance and operations positions at the Windsor Star over the past 16 years. In his most recent position as Finance Director, Mr. Venney developed efficient systems for use in all aspects of newspaper administration and reporting and played a key role in the outstanding financial performance record of the Star over the past ten years.
I am very excited to take on the role of Publisher at the Windsor Star, a paper with a long history and a strong presence in the community, said Venney. The entire team is made up of talented and dynamic people who work hard every day to create one of the best local papers in the country. I look forward to the opportunity to further contribute to the team and the growth of the paper.
