CanWest MediaWorks Appoints New Publisher for the Calgary Herald

CALGARY, Alberta – Dennis Skulsky, President of CanWest MediaWorks Publications Inc., today announced the appointment of Malcolm Kirk to the position of Publisher, Calgary Herald.
“I’m delighted that Malcolm will be returning to CanWest,” said Mr. Skulsky. “Not only is he very familiar with the Calgary Herald, having served as Editor-in-Chief from 2003-2006, but has extensive experience across several of CanWest’s newspapers, including The Vancouver Province and The Montreal Gazette. He’s well respected within the industry for his exceptional leadership skills and strong content instincts. Malcolm is also known for his entrepreneurial spirit and keen business marketing mind.”
With almost 20 years of experience in the newspaper industry, Mr. Kirk most recently served as Executive Editor of the San Francisco Examiner. Prior to this, Mr. Kirk held many senior editorial positions with various publications across Canada, including The Montreal Gazette, The Halifax Daily News, and the Calgary Herald. During his time as Editor-in-Chief of the Calgary Herald, the newspaper won numerous awards, including two National Newspaper Awards for written work, a citation from the Michener Foundation, and the 2005 best newspaper practice award from the Canadian Newspaper Association for Calgary Herald’s Our Alberta centennial magazine series. Mr. Kirk has also been involved with the development and management of business plans for a wide variety of successful product launches and special newspaper projects over the years.

Mr. Kirk received his Bachelor of Journalism (Honours) degree from the University of King’s College, Halifax, N.S.
