GLOBAL CURRENTS (New Canadian Original)
Premiering Saturday, September 23 at 7pm ET

Presented by Global National’s Executive Editor and Anchor Kevin Newman, this unique series of hour-long documentaries brings engaging and enlightening character-driven stories about socially relevant issues home to Canadians.

Episode 1: Greenpeace: Making a Stand (Sept.23) - a compelling documentary based on Rex Weyler’s book, “Greenpeace: How a Group of Ecologists, Journalists and Visionaries Changed the World.” The documentary looks at the dramatic 35-year evolution of Greenpeace, from the early days of the environmental movement in the 1970s, to the front lines of a potentially dangerous campaign in Argentina.

Episode 2: Health Care 911: The Plight of Immigrant Medical Doctors (Sept. 30) Examines why qualified and medically-trained new immigrants are not given the chance at healthcare positions in Canada. With at least 8,000 immigrant medical personnel living in Canada and only six positions available each year in British Columbia, the Vancouver-based film digs deep to find out how these new Canadians are coping with having to work in blue-collar jobs.

Episode 3: Breaking Ranks (October 7) – Provides exclusive access to American military deserters from the war in Iraq and examines the current phenomena of soldiers from the United States seeking refuge in Canada in their efforts to resist the war effort in Iraq. Also based in Vancouver, the film documents their experience as they face dire situations on both borders: if they are deported back to the US, they face one-to-five years prison time; if they stay, it may cause unprecedented tension in US-Canadian relations.

Episode 4: The Dads Who Fought Back (October 14) - The story of two fathers’ struggle to spend more time with their children in custody battles against a system they feel has evolved into a deep and persistent gender bias against fathers. The film follows other men who are fighting to be heard, including activist groups such as “Fathers for Justice” who, for better or worse, draw attention to their cause with masquerade antics.

BROTHERS & SISTERS (New Series)
Premiering Sunday, September 24 at 10pm ET

From producer Ken Olin (Alias) – Calista Flockhart returns to television as Kitty Walker, the successful radio personality who is about to move to L.A. for a TV job when her boyfriend in New York proposes. As Kitty and her four siblings face personal and professional dilemmas, they discover family secrets that threaten to tear them apart.

CAST: Calista Flockhart, Rachel Griffiths, Sally Field

GILMORE GIRLS (Season 7)
Premiering Tuesday, September 26 at 10pm ET

Set in a storybook Connecticut town populated with an eclectic mix of everyday folks and lovable lunatics, Gilmore Girls is a humorous multigenerational series about friendship, family and the ties that bind. Thirty-something Lorelai Gilmore has made her share of mistakes in life, but she has been doing her best to see that her college-bound daughter--and best friend in the world--Rory, doesn't follow in her footsteps. That may be easier said than done, considering that the two share the same interests, the same intellect, the same coffee addiction and the same eyes.
