driving.ca takes to the air with Driving Television

Automotive website celebrates first anniversary with multi-platform offering
(TORONTO) CanWest MediaWorks Inc is pleased to announce that driving.ca, Canada’s premier automotive online destination, has partnered with Tencrows Media Group for production of the show Driving Television. The agreement, celebrated alongside driving.ca’s first anniversary, creates Canada’s first automotive information source available in online, print and television formats.

CanWest’s latest move into the broadcast arena with Driving Television adds another dimension to the suite of automotive resources available to consumers at driving.ca and in the weekly Driving sections of CanWest newspapers. Consumers have even more resources available to them now under the driving.ca umbrella that can help them to make an informed decision about their automobile purchase.

“driving.ca has had a phenomenal first year and we’ve only just begun.” said Laura Pearce, General Manager for driving.ca. “This agreement broadens driving.ca’s reach and solidifies our position as the only automotive site supported by such an extensive network of newspapers, where consumers can research automobiles, buy and sell used cars, purchase new vehicles, and search for the latest automobile news.”

driving.ca and Tencrows will collaborate to produce the longstanding television show and combine brands to create a unified look and feel across platforms. Episodes of the program are also available for viewing at driving.ca. Both the program and the website will promote and drive traffic between formats. As well, ongoing print ads in the Driving sections of CanWest newspapers will promote upcoming content on Driving Television and drive traffic to classified listings and research material on the website.

The first joint episode of Driving Television aired October 21 and 22, and the weekly program will run on Saturdays and Sundays on Global Television, CH Television and MenTV. The show includes favourite consumer segments including “Proven Performers”, which provides used car reviews and “His & Her Test Drives”, which pits male and female reviews of a featured vehicle against each other.

In addition to a booming first year, driving.ca wraps up a successful online contest promotion today for a chance to win a 2007 BMW X3 3.0i. The contest has garnered over 108,000 entries in the 34 day span of the contest, averaging over 3,175 entries a day. In order to be eligible, entrants had to research answers to questions on the driving.ca website.

Alongside the contest, driving.ca unveiled its new slogan “Smarter buyer. Better car”, to promote the site as the resource that offers consumers all of the tools to help them make a better decision about their next vehicle purchase.

“driving.ca is the #1 multi-platform source for automotive information, news and listings in Canada,” said Arturo Duran, President, Interactive and Business Integration, CanWest MediaWorks Inc. “With our full suite of online destinations, including canada.com, working.com and driving.ca, we are reaching out to a broad market to support the vast needs of our growing network of clients”.

driving.ca’s foray into television this Fall marks the 1st year anniversary of the successful website’s launch. The site’s following continues to strengthen as the average monthly number of unique visitors to driving.ca is up 34% in 2006 since the site was launched in November of 2005.

driving.ca is a classified source for buying and selling cars. This full listing site is rich with content, offering consumers comparison tools and features, a full inventory of available cars from the dealer network, classified listings from CanWest’s 11 major daily newspapers, as well as car reviews from CanWest writers across the country. driving.ca and canada.com are proud sponsors of Nascar's only full-time Canadian driver, Ottawa-born Pierre Bourque.
