working.com launches new site for Ontario nurses
|
 |
TORONTO, May 4, 2005 - Canwest Mediaworks and working.com, Canada's
fastest growing job search site, are pleased to announce the launch of
working.com/nurses, a site designed specifically for nurses seeking employment
and hospitals seeking qualified nursing candidates.
Launched in association with Nurses4Ontario, a non-profit association,
working.com/nurses will initially be available in Toronto, Ottawa and Windsor
and will provide information, at launch, on nursing positions at 12 different
Toronto area hospitals.
Nurses4Ontario will also provide regular articles and information
relevant to nurses. The first article to appear offers an introduction to
Nurses4Ontario as well as a description of résumé workshops the association
will be offering.
The three initial Ontario sites, in cooperation with Nurses4Ontario and
with the support of National Post, Ottawa Citizen and The Windsor Star will
work with Ontario hospitals to provide information to website visitors on
positions available. Initially, jobs will be posted from 12 hospitals:
Markham Stouffville, Mount Sinai, Southlake Regional Health Centre, Sunnybrook
& Women's College Health Sciences Centre, Halton Healthcare Services,
St. Michael's Hospital, St. Joseph's Health Centre, Toronto East General
Hospital, St. John's Rehab Hospital, Surrey Place Centre, Peterborough
Regional Health Centre and The Credit Valley Hospital.
This targeted online service comes at a time when Ontario's nursing
profession is suffering from government cutbacks and an increasingly gloomy
employment outlook.
"By offering this kind of free service, we can ensure that nurses have
timely and accurate access to information regarding positions in which they
might be interested and, likewise, that hospitals are made aware of nurses
whom they might like to pursue for any given openings," says Kim Peters,
Director, Online Careers, CanWest Mediaworks. "It's a win-win from both perspectives."
Nurses4Ontario is a non-profit organization founded in 2003 by Registered
Nurse, Elaine Burr, of St. Michael's Hospital. Its goal is to support student
nurses and RNs by facilitating events which highlight the various nursing
career and educational opportunities available in the province.
"Wherever one might be in their nursing career, Nurses4Ontario is
committed to helping them reach their educational and professional goals,"
says Ms. Burr.
"working.com/nurses will help us reach many of those people looking for a
change and, similarly, will provide an invaluable resource to hospitals
sourcing qualified nurses."
CanWest Mediaworks is a wholly owned subsidiary of CanWest Global
Communications Corp. (NYSE: CWG; TSX: CGS.SV and CGS.NV,
www.CanWestglobal.com), an international media company. CanWest is Canada's
