Paper continues to grow key audience |
 |
(TORONTO Monday, November 7, 2005) The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) released its Publishers Statement today, indicating that home delivered copies of National Post have increased year over year for the twelve-month period ending September 2005.
According to the report, total home delivered copies were up 8% or 121,632 compared with 112,876 last year. Subscriptions to the National Posts electronic edition increased by 46%, as the paper also sought to acquire readers who prefer the online medium.
These positive results stem from an overall plan that focuses our efforts on the growth of our home delivery base, said Terry Willows, Vice President, Reader Sales and Service, National Post. Over the past year we have become more strategic about where and how were selling papers. Our increase in overall home delivery and subsequent drop in bulk sales reflects our focus on increasing the high quality of readership our advertising clients have become accustomed to.
Six-day bulk copies of the National Post were reduced by 14.5% or 8,500 copies, while six-day single copy sales decreased by 12,716 or 18%. These declines coincide with the papers decision to refocus on geographic sales areas that are most advantageous to advertisers and ensure positive financial returns for the Post.
We are very pleased with our overall circulation and future outlook, said Gordon Fisher, Publisher, National Post. The numbers are all trending in the right direction and reflect many of the initiatives we have put in place over the past year such as an increased focus on strategic marketing and the launch of new sections like Driving and Working.
The ABC data reinforces the positive NADbank results from September which saw the Post gain a 10 point increase in exclusive readership and the only paper in Toronto to experience readership growth, continued Mr. Fisher. In such a fiercely competitive market, we have some great momentum and Im confident were heading in the right direction.
