(TORONTO – March 20, 2006) Debbie Travis and the Global Television Network unite to bring viewers a raw, provocative, and dramatic television series that will give 12 young Canadians cash, fame or… a future. FROM THE GROUND UP WITH DEBBIE TRAVIS is a 10-episode, one-hour primetime series that debuts on Sunday, APRIL 23 AT 7 PM ET/PT.

Not a design or renovation show. Not a game show. No ‘challenges’. No stunts. This is not a typical reality show. FROM THE GROUND UP is a hard-hitting factual entertainment series inspired by Travis’ twofold personal quest as a mother and an employer: to instill passion and a work ethic in a lost and disillusioned generation of youth ages 20-30, who want everything fast, but aren’t prepared to work for it; and to bring pride and honour back to the building trades.

Travis embarked on a cross-Canada search for 12 young people who were looking for a break. After interviewing thousands of candidates she found her 12 protégés – each representing this generation with their personal story.

With the help of Travis, Tribute Communities, one of Canada’s leading, award-winning builders, and the countries best master crafts people, the protégés will have five weeks to build a luxury mansion from the ground up.

The stakes for all 12 protégés, as well as for Travis, will be high as the mansion must be built to the highest standards. When the mansion is sold, one of the protégés will walk away with $250,000 from the profit of the sale of the mansion! Viewers across Canada will vote at the conclusion of the series and select the protégé who has the best attitude and ability.

Travis will become part of the protégés’ lives – mentoring, guiding, and inspiring. Travis will be faced with the challenge of infusing desire and a hunger into her disenchanted group. Through learning the trades, Travis hopes that her protégés will not only discover a passion for the trades, but for their future.

“Now is my chance to repay the incredible support I’ve had over the years during my career as a producer and designer. I have witnessed, first hand, the thrill of both businesses. My mission with this new series is to instill some of my passion into what I believe is a rather disillusioned generation and to show them that there is a great future in the trades,” says Debbie Travis.

The traumas, the triumphs. Who will stick with it? Who will crash and burn? How will the protégés get along, not only at work but living together in their dorm? Who will be transformed by the experience? Who will earn the cash reward? The decision is in the hands of Canadian viewers coast to coast.

Emotional and inspiring, this series is about much more than building a house – it is about rebuilding lives FROM THE GROUND UP.
