Global Winnipeg Welcomes Peter Chura As New 'Evening News' Anchor
|
 |
(Winnipeg) Global Winnipeg announced today the appointment of Peter Chura as the new Evening News anchor and supervising producer.
Peter is no stranger to Winnipeg since he reported for Global Winnipeg in 1996. Winnipeg is also where he met his wife Lucy, who is originally from the city. The award-winning journalist brings with him a wealth of experience having covered national and international news, interviewing Canadas last three Prime Ministers as CHUMs CityTV and A-Channel Parliament Hill correspondent for the past seven years.
We are delighted to have Peter return to our Global family and we believe he will be a great addition given his impressive credentials, says Jon Lovlin, News Director of Global Winnipeg. Peter is a seasoned and accomplished journalist especially in the world of politics, which will not only benefit our organization, but also our viewers.
A graduate of the Carleton School of Journalism in 1992, Peter began his journalism career with CBC National in Toronto as a writer and editor. He then moved on to MCTV Timmins as a reporter and anchor, Global TV Winnipeg, ITV Edmonton and CHUM. He was also one of the first Canadian journalists to enter Kosovo following the end of the NATO bombing there in 1999.
His work has earned him a CANPRO Gold medal for his series on Canadian troops in Bosnia in 1997 and an RTNDA award for best spot news coverage in 1999. Peters first day on the Global Winnipeg anchor desk is Monday, June 4 th, 2007.
This exciting Global Winnipeg appointment follows the recent departure of Evening News anchor Derrick Oliver - having recently resigned his post to pursue new challenges. Global news director Jon Lovlin went on to say, "While we are sad to lose Derrick, the entire team at Global wishes him continued success and happiness. His contribution to the Global newsroom was a tremendous one, bringing energy and passion to every story, and every newscast."
