Exclusive 20th Anniversary Special Reflects On Alberta’s Deadliest Tornado

Tuesday, July 31st At 6:30 – 7 P.M.

Encore Presentation Monday, August 6th At 5 P.M.
(Edmonton) On Tuesday, July 31st, Global News Edmonton presents an exclusive half-hour dedicated to the victims and families hit by one of the worst tornadoes in Canadian history.

On July 31, 1987, Edmonton and parts of neighbouring Strathcona County were struck by an F4 tornado with winds that topped 415 km/hour - killing 27, leaving hundreds injured and thousands homeless. It's a day Edmontonians will forever remember as 'Black Friday'.

Now, 20 years later, the Global News team will take a look back at the deadly storm through the eyes of several people directly affected by the violent force of this extreme weather event.

“Black Friday: 20 Years Later” will also investigate what has changed since the tragic event when it comes to predicting tornadoes and preparing for such emergencies.

An encore presentation of this half-hour special will air on Monday, August 6 at 5 p.m.
