As Canadas largest newspaper publisher, CanWest MediaWorks Publications Inc. owns 27 daily and weekly newspapers reaching over 4.4 million consumers at home and at work every day. Together with our well-known online brands such as canada.com, working.com and driving.ca, these papers comprise the CanWest MediaWorks Income Fund.
The CanWest MediaWorks Income Fund provides an opportunity to participate in Canada's largest daily newspaper publisher and leading online content companies. With an average daily paid circulation of approximately 1.1 million copies, the Income Funds daily metropolitan newspapers are among the oldest and most respected in the country.
Industry-leading brands, stable and geographically diversified revenue base. In addition to publishing the number one newspaper in nine metropolitan markets in Canada, the Income Fund is also comprised of a number of other publications in smaller markets. Nine of the Funds newspapers have been in continuous publication for over 100 years. This longevity has created a brand loyalty among its newspapers readers and advertisers that few other consumer products can claim.
Strong online presence. CanWest MediaWorks Income Fund is also comprised of an extensive portfolio of online businesses and classified sites including canada.com, working.com and driving.ca. This family of internet classified sites complement the Funds newspaper classifieds and are expected to provide a source of future revenue growth. The Funds online portfolio also includes FPinfomart.ca, an electronic archive of more than 230 Canadian news sources providing businesses with internet or wireless access to research and media-monitoring services, and FP DataGroup (financialpost.com), a subscription-based internet site providing businesses with electronic access to a comprehensive source of corporate and industry data and information.
Ownership and sharing of proprietary, high quality content. Approximately 1,350 staff journalists and over 5,000 contracts with free-lance writers work across CanWest MediaWorks newspapers, providing a depth and breadth of high quality, original editorial content. This allows the newspapers to provide consumers with high-quality, original content, eliminates duplication of editorial efforts and provides substantial cost savings. CanWest News Service also sells editorial content to third-party media which provides an additional source of revenue for the Fund. |
