CanWest MediaWorks Appoints New President, Publications

CanWest appoints experienced publisher Dennis Skulsky to fill role
TORONTO /CNW/ - Peter Viner, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Limited Partnership, Canadian Operations, CanWest MediaWorks Inc. today announced the appointment of Dennis Skulsky to the position of President, CanWest Publications. In this position, Mr. Skulsky will oversee the Company's print assets, including 10 metro dailies, Lower Mainland Publishing Group, the Vancouver Island community newspaper group, CanWest News Service, Dose and CanWest Books. He will also have responsibility for overseeing the National Post. The position will be based in Toronto.

"Dennis brings a wealth of strategic and operational experience in publishing and is well respected within CanWest for his enthusiasm, vision and strong leadership capabilities."

Mr. Skulsky began his career nearly 30 years ago as Circulation District Manager with the The Edmonton Journal. Since that time he has held a variety of senior leadership positions, with Southam Inc., Hollinger and CanWest. In his most recent position of President and Publisher, Pacific Newspaper Group, Mr. Skulsky was responsible for the The Vancouver Sun, The Province and the Lower Mainland Publishing Group, as well as for College Printer, the company's commercial print operation. Through his additional responsibilities as Group Publisher, Western Region, Mr. Skulsky also oversaw all of CanWest MediaWorks western daily newspapers, including The Vancouver Sun, The Province, The Times-Colonist (Victoria), The Calgary Herald, The Edmonton Journal, Leader-Post (Regina), The Star-Phoenix (Saskatoon) and 12 community newspapers in B.C.'s Lower Mainland.

A search for a new Publisher for the Pacific Newspaper Group is currently underway.
