National Post Helps Readers Get More Out Of Life

Arts & Life Section Revamped and Energized
(TORONTO ) Starting today, National Post’s refreshed Arts & Life section showcases new content and features to help readers get the most out of life. The section includes significantly expanded coverage in the areas of life, health, fashion and relationships. Covering everything from babies to beauty, retail to recipes, lifestyle to luxury, National Post breaths new energy into its Arts & Life section.

“When this paper first landed on doorsteps across the country almost nine years ago, we promised to bring a lively alternative to the dry, predictable journalism of the day. Today, we recommit ourselves to that mandate with a bigger, bolder Arts & Life section,” said Douglas Kelly, Editor-in-Chief, National Post. “In the coming days, we'll introduce a range of new voices and features, and provide even more of the unique arts and entertainment coverage our readers have come to depend upon.”

National Post’s Arts & Life section will increase by at least four pages daily from Monday to Friday, delivering fresh content and features, including new columns, stories, and series, in combination with educational tips and information. As well, the Body & Health page moves to the section with a renewed focus on fitness and personal health.

The improved section comes on the heels of a series of recent enhancements for National Post, including a revitalized Toronto section, the success of new online features from the Financial Post, and the launch of the Financial Post podcast.

“The National Post continually introduces new features for our readers and advertisers with topical columns and stories that we believe they’ll enjoy and find value in,” said Mark Spencer, Vice President, Advertising, National Post. “This enhanced focus on life and health in our Arts & Life section also allows our advertisers new and innovative opportunities to reach this audience and we’re receptive to develop a whole new range of initiatives with them.”

The Arts & Life section now includes the All About feature, a weekly three-part series with a new theme each week. Subjects will include relationships, health, general living and a host of other lifestyle issues and topics. This week’s theme is All About Finding and Keeping Love. The first installment, appearing on Tuesdays, will include an in-depth feature on the week’s theme, followed by a first-person essay on Wednesdays by a witty and original writer, and wrapping up on Thursdays with readers’ thoughts on the week’s subject.

The enhanced Arts & Life section will feature several new voices and columns including:

  • “My Green Year” by reporter Vanessa Farquharson. Farquharson begins a year-long challenge to do one thing each day that betters the environment.
  • “Jill Barker on Fitness.” The Montreal Gazette’s weekly fitness column featured in National Post will begin with Barker’s 12 weeks to go from the couch to the finish line of a 5K race.
  • “Rosie Schwartz on Nutrition .” National Post’s nutritionist’s weekly column on what to eat and what not to eat moves into the Arts & Life section.
  • “Anne-Marie Mediwake’s Triplet Journal .” The energetic co-anchor of Global Ontario’s News Hour is about to become a mother of three, and she’ll take readers along on her biggest assignment yet.

In addition, Arts & Life will continue to provide readers with the arts and entertainment coverage they’ve come to know and love, including:

  • Shinan Govani’s must-read column on Toronto society
  • Robert Fulford’s Notebook on the cultural issues of the day
  • Robert Cushman’s authoritative theater reviews
  • Rob McKenzie’s offbeat television columns
  • Chris Knight’s witty film writing
  • The always compelling Avenue page
  • Plus regular coverage of high culture, pop culture and everything in between
