After getting himself incarcerated in Fox River State Penitentiary to free his wrongly accused brother, Lincoln Burrows, Michael Scofield made a daring escape along with his brother and six other convicts. Set to uncover the $5 million hidden by D.B. Cooper, the Fox River 8 soon found their numbers dwindling as they attempted to evade capture by the relentless FBI Special Agent Alexander Mahone who had reasons of his own for chasing Michael and Lincoln.
As season 2 closed, Michael was re-arrested and sent to "Penitenciaría Federal de Sona", or in English Sona Federal Penitentiary under the watchful eye of The Company - a secret group of multinationals whose main goal is to attain control over the country's economy. A new mystery begins as The Company watches Michael's incarceration in the Panamanian prison while Lincoln tries to locate his brother. Is escape in his blood as they suspect and what does Sona offer The Company?
