Insert
Packaging
Specifications
An integral part of the distribution process is the packaging and shipping of inserts from the printer to the newspapers. CMW-N has created standard packing instructions, skidding requirements and shipment procedures.

Packing
Instructions
Inserts must be suitable for machine inserting and must not be tied or banded (if at all possible). Inserts must be properly jogged in minimum turns of 4 inches high. Several turns should be alternated to create a lift or bundle 12 inches high. Turns of less than 3 inches incur additional labour costs.
Card and envelope inserts should be boxed in rows, with dividers between rows. Cardboard separators should be used on top of each layer if more than one layer is packed in the box. Please ensure that each box does not exceed 40 lbs.

Skidding
Instructions
Product must be stacked on a non-returnable skid with a sturdy solid-base, in good condition. The loaded skid must not exceed 42" wide, by 48" deep, and 48" high, and must not exceed 2,000 lbs. A substantial protective cover should be placed on the skid before stacking to prevent inserts from becoming curled or distorted. The skid base must be mounted on a minimum of 3 runners, ¾" to 1" thick and 4" high. Not less than 3-3/4 inches high to allow handling with fork trucks and hand trucks. |
Each skid must contain the same number of copies with the last skid containing the balance. A sturdy cardboard protector should be placed on top of the inserts, followed by a solid wood top of the same dimensions as the skid base. All skids must be banded four ways. A sturdy cardboard separator should be placed between layers to prevent shifting. |
Shrink-wrapping (twice) is requested if flyers are printed on a glossy stock. When shrink-wrapping is used, vertical edges MUST be guarded with protectors to prevent curling of the insert corners.
